I am formulating a Hydrating and Toning facial mist and I have been receiving contradictory advice regarding preservatives.  Some are telling me that Leucidal, Caprylhydroxamic Acid GCG, Liquid Germall Plus or Optiphen will work as natural preservatives while others are saying don’t be fooled by the “natural” approach and to use Germaben II.
Here is my formula, what do you suggest (or what combinations) if I want to stray away from paraben’s:
    Distilled Water: 46.8%
    Rose Water: 20%
    Aloe Water: 10%
    Coconut Water: 10%
    Witch Hazel: 5%
    Hibiscus Extract: 2%
    Green Tea Extract: 2%
    Chamomile Extract: 2%
    Butylene Glycol: 1%

Thanks for the reply! So if I use Geogard Ultra at 1% would I need to add anything else or would that be sufficient enough?

You’ll have to test it to find out. People here can only give you suggestions on what might work. These might not work for your specific situation.

That is all you need for preservation. After adding take Ph the next day as it has to equilibrate o/n—-should be 5-5.5.

If you want to boost the preservative add some Dissolvine GL47 (Tetrasodium Glutamate Dictate) which boosts the effectiveness Geogard Ultra by almost 2X

DRBOB is Lotion Crafter’s NeoDefend a substitute for Geogard? Also if I want to switch the Butylene Glycol to Propolyne Glycol which percentage would you suggest that won’t leave a sticky feeling on the skin? Thanks as always for the advice!

@eddyford  The NeoDefend can be used in place of Geoguard Ultra as it is the same:also suggest you use 1-2% Propanediol in place of Butylene Glycol. If you can only get propylene thats okay also at same levels.(wanted to be sure you understood as above may not be clear).
