    Hi.

I have been trying to make a natural pre-shampoo hair butter meant to be applied on scalp and hair, left for 1 hour and washed with a sulfate free shampoo.

I tried a few different ratios with shea butter, mango butter, cocoa butter, almond oil, argan oil, castor oil, coconut oil, olive oil and avocado oil. Nothing worked. It is not forming a butter, just plain oil. I tried cocoa butter 85% mango butter 5% plus few oils. I tried shea and mango butter 50:50. No luck. Everything was liquid at first, but then it started freezing (like crystals) on top. I don’t understand why this is happening.

I think adding an emulsifier may work, but not sure how to choose one that won’t cause build up.

I looked at some recipes online and they all recommend freezing and whipping. I understand how that would work, but my client may not be able to do that.

Is there a way to get butter consistency without freezing or whipping ?

Is it necessary to add a cationic surfactant? I am worried it may cause build up.

    Thanks in advance :)
