  • Potassium Carbonate Black Soap SAP values

I have been making black soap with potassium carbonate. The Ghana Soap School recommends that 1.5 the amount of KOH is needed to create safe black soap with K2CO3. In Africa they are using an organic form of K2CO3 and all that is available in the North American market is inorganic K2CO3. I am familiar with using a soap calculator that has a more precise measurement for my alkaline to fatty acid ratio. Is there a SAP chart already in circulation for calculating K2CO3 for soap making? I feel like I am reinventing the wheel and though it is fun I want to make the best formulations possible. Most soap makers I know personally are not really interested in the smoky process that is black soap making. The technique is vastly different from the hardwood potash than the pioneer method of straining liquid ash so there does not seem to be much shared information. Anyone have some information to help me do better black soap calculations? TIA
