Home Cosmetic Science Talk Formulating General Polyglycerin-10

  • Polyglycerin-10

Is anyone familiar with this ingredient? I haven’t been able to find much information about it. The seller says it is “A high-performance moisturizer made up of glycerin linked together in a larger structure. Makes it able to retain moisture to the skin higher.”

I am wondering if it is worth trying in place of glycerin in a lotion, or if it is just glycerin with a higher price tag.

    Thank you!

I remember Dr Wichers did a lot of research on humectants, especially on glycerin. He found that it has properties beyond its ability to capture water, and part of it was due to glycerin being able to penetrate few layers of the SC. That wouldn’t be possible is you make a polymer out of it (maybe an oligomer). So, I’d stay with our very old friend the way it is.

Also these polyglycerins are several times more expensive than glycerin.

I have used this product (as it was required by the marketers in the Product Design). Honestly, we didn’t see a great deal more moisturization as perceived by the user. Ironically when they started pricing out the projects, they had us sub it out with plain Glycerin.

I will add here that polyglycerin-10 is mainly a precursor to synthesize the very useful polyglyceryl-10 ester emulsifiers. Marketing it as a lone ingredient may have been an afterthought on part of a manufacturer with dubious qualities assigned. I’ve yet to see it on any CPG label.

pq-10 is used in shampoo for Conditioning so don’t required PQ-10 in you lotion. if you use PQ-10 than use it with 2% glycerin and mix it well.

yahh it’s totally different. it’s my understanding mistake. apologize for that.return back to you answer..

it is possible that some manufacturers may market polyglycerin-10 as a lone ingredient in order to make it seem more appealing to consumers. However, it is important that polyglycerin-10 is not a very effective ingredient on its own. It is only when it is combined with other ingredients that it can be used to create effective personal care products.
