  • PMMA causing hard particles in batch?

Posted by rkaufman6 on September 23, 2018 at 1:23 pm

I am manufacturing a lotion that we have been making forever.
All of a sudden we have hard fine sharp particles.
We believe it is coming from the PMMA.
Does anyone have experience with this happening?
We have tried milling and straining the batch

I don’t think this is enough information for people to help you. Listing all ingredients( the formula) and the process (do you use heat? ) will help pinpoint where the problem is coming from.

If this is really “all of a sudden” you should also look at what’s changed. Have your raw materials come from a new supplier?  Did you change order of addition, or change production scale?

PMMA is added at 60-65, the raw or vendor has not changed with this lot and the process was followed the same as always. There is no other raw we can pinpoint that could cause these “sharp” particles unless is is 1% HA soln pre dispersed.

well in that case you could do a knockout- one formula without PMMA, one without HA and see if you still observe the particles in either
