Hi, so I made a simple leave in conditioner but then after a few weeks water started separate from it. I wanted it to be a light leave-in conditioner so i used 0.05% of the emulsified blend (Glyceryl Stearate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol (and) Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate) even though the usage rate is 2%-8% Could this be the only reason it separated. I would love some help I am trying to learn to be better at this.

I’m not a formulator but from your list, it seems you are a bit low on emulsifier, you have to try what ratio work best for your formula and might consider preservative as well.
Lets wait for experienced members advices.

I agree with @Pattsi. You have a very low level of emulsifier, especially for butters, which are hard to emulsify. Btw, in the body of your message you mention 0.05% of emulsified blend, but the formula shows 0.625%. Which one is correct?

Also, sorbic acid alone is not going to protect your product, and might cause some discomfort in consumers at high levels.

@Pattsi @ketchito thank you! 0.625% is correct one. Are there any other preservatives you recommend?
