  • pH Adjuster with salicylic acid

So I’ve been trying to make a toner with Salicylic Acid (SA), and I’m stuck on what I should use to raise the pH - since I know it will be low
    What I have so far:
      - SA Powder (2%)                                        -  Propanediol (10%)
      - Witch Hazel + Lavender Hydrosol (30%)
      - Aloe Vera 10x Concentrate (10%)             - Allantoin (0.5%)
      - Geogard Ultra [Na Benzoate + Gluconolactone mix] (1%)
      - pH Adjuster ??? (1-2%)
      - Green Tea Extract (1%)                             - Distilled Water (44%)

I know, besides SA Powder, that I have other ingredients that are lowering my pH (gluconolactone & aloe vera) so I know my pH will be pretty low. That’s why I was wondering if Na Lactate or Na Citrate would be strong enough to raise the pH to 3.5-4?

I know something like NaOH (pH=13) would probably be best but they seem to only be selling them in bulks (at least >1lb.) and I don’t need that much!
AND I’m not sure which one to use since there are so many different types like industrial ones and food grade ones. I don’t want to get the wrong one since NaOH can be very caustic if used incorrectly

What is the current pH? TEA is an other alternative.

It’s about a 2.9-3.0 right now - without any pH stabilizer.
I’ve used TEA before and I believe it was the reason it started irritating my skin after using it for a period of time.
I’ve heard you’re not supposed to leave it on your skin but wash it off right away after applying it

For a small ph increase you will need very little tea. But you can go for the sodium salts as well.

Tea is commonly used to adjust pH on acne treatments. The result would be an analgesic.

Try Na Lactate. I have it on my toner and lower my pH using citric acid.
