Pearl
Posted by belassi on April 6, 2017 at 9:38 pmNormally I add the Quick Pearl to shampoo after I have got the mixture well blended. However, Plantaren APB is so difficult to mix when cool, this time I thought, I’ll add the coffee/licorice mix at 80C. So I added the pearl to the surfactant.
To my surprise when it cooled down I had zero pearl effect. I had to add an additional 3% pearl to get the correct appearance.belassi replied 8 years, 1 month ago 2 Members · 11 Replies -

Hi Belassi i decided no work with plantaren apb anymore, its about cost. a live in a small city and bring it from Mexico city increase my cost, im going to work with only ALS , CAPB, DECYL GLUCOSIDE and MEA. i start with my samples,
ALS 16%
CAPB 8%
DECYL 3%
MEA 1.5%
PQ 7 1.5%
PQ 10 .3%
PEG 12 DIMETICONE 3%
KATHON CG .15 %CITRIC ACID 1.7 GRAMS PER KILOGRAM
FRAGANCE .4
TWEEN 20 .8
WATER 63%THE VISCOSITY IS OK , GOOD SENSORIAL, SHINE, BUT THE HAIR GOES DRY IN LESS THAN A HOUR, AND SOMETIMES THIS SHAMPOO (IRRITATES SKIN HEAD) TO SOME PEOPLE.
in your past test, how do you treat this problems
-
about to your post, i had three years i dont work with pearl aditives, most of my shampoos are clear and only one is creammy white, i used an opacificant
-
Well, I used to formulate something like that prior to using APB. It’s true, I have the same problem, I have to pay the freight and container cost of shipping the APB from DF and it is a pain. So I end up with all these empty 10Kg or 15Kg containers.
The reason I use APB is because it is not just ALS but also the milder ALES and the high purity LDEA. With CAPB I only need to use 20% APB and 6% CAPB to achieve a super nice product.
In my opinion (others on this forum may well disagree)
1. Get rid of the decyl glucoside.
2. Get rid of the tween it should not be necessary, ALS is a very good emulsifier.
3. You’re right at the limit with (I assume you mean cocamide MEA, not MEA) any more is going to precipitate out.
4. Why all that dimethicone? Seems like a lot. Isn’t it going to ruin the foam? -
thanks a lot, yes the dimethicone impact my foam, but its not severe, dimethicone help me, against the ALS detergent power.
i will eliminate decyl glocuside i think is allergic.
i will decrease the level of tween 20, my fragance afected my viscosity tahts the reason for use it.
yes cocoamide MEA is correct, im going to try at 1.3 % of it.i was thinking reduce the level of ALS at 14%. and looking for lamesoft in guadalajara supplier.
thanks again

You can try PO65 and you will get a soft effect. But absolutely do not use that with the DG, I had allergic reactions reported. Fragrance always affects viscosity, it’s a question of how we adjust for that, usually adjusting with either ammonium chloride or CAPB. Tween impacts foam, it’s a negative item in shampoo.

About carbopol aqua, the only shampoo I used it , is in SHAMPOO MATIZADOR(SILVER SHAMPOO) Is the only way to keep the dye in the shampoo. you must take a glance on ASHLAND productos it has a very interesting actives to conditioning , for example Policuaternium 55.
