I’m new to formulating cosmetics, and am looking to make a face cleanser & makeup remover based on Lush’s Ultrabland product. This product is just for me-I wouldn’t be selling or distributing to others.

My plan is to make what I think is an anhydrous solution containing beeswax, honey, and essential oils (sweet almond, rosehip, geranium). I’ve also seen copycat recipes that involve rose water.

    1. If I go with the anhydrous solution, it is a must to incorporate parabens? I’ve read that this isn’t necessary, but that some people include them anyway, just to be safe. Lush’s recipe includes methylparaben, propylparaben, and glycerine. https://www.lush.com/us/en_us/p/ultrabland-facial-cleanser

    2. If I incorporate rosewater, would Liquid Germall Plus be sufficient as a broad-spectrum preservative? This seems to be the go-to for many DIYers.

Thanks for sharing your expertise with me.
