Oliec acid/linoleic acid
Posted by JD on May 31, 2016 at 4:25 pmHi All,
Question:
when an ingredient listing has “Omega 6” as its first ingredient and then specifies (linoleic and oleic acid) after it, what is that suppose to be?JD replied 8 years, 4 months ago 5 Members · 6 Replies -

I am not sure I understand your question, but the “Omega 6” is listed is due to marketing reasons. Linoleic Acid is an omega-6 acid (C-C double bond in the n-6 position)

Omega 6 is just a common or garden fatty acid found in many cooking oils. Nothing special about it.

If they are listing “Omega 6” in their ingredient list then they are not following the labeling rules properly. Omega 6 is a trade name of a blended raw material consisting of Linoleic acid (and) Oleic acid (and) linolenic acid (and) polysorbate 20. That is how it is supposed to be labeled.
