    Hello everybody!

My 2 products after stability test changed the pH more then 20% up. pH shifted to 6.5 in place of 5.5. Additionally I used benzoic and sorbic acids as preservatives. Both formulas have up to 30% plant extrakts, so that the finished formula has a pH below 3, because they contain citric acid and sodium citrate. Then I increased it to a range of 5-5.5 with potassium hydroxide. But as a result of testing it turned out that the pH increases with time to 6.5-7.0. I can not change presevatives.

    1. Would you be able to recomend in this case to stabilize the pH?
    2. Which ingredient in my formulas can change the pH during the time?

I don’t understand, are you using a citrate buffer or not?. It’s not on the LOI.

I think it’s got to be that whatchacallit extract. Nothing else fits.

Is your formulation stable within the shelf life you wanted? Do you notice any degradation in those extract? If everything is ok, than pH should not be a problem if it is in the range of 5-7.
