    Hi everyone,

I’m fairly new here!! Thanks for having me.
I’m looking for natural cosmetic and skincare manufacturers for fairly low quantities (3000-7000), anywhere in North America. Also, if anyone can make referrals for “organic” cosmetic and skincare that would be great too.
    Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, it is not possible to legally manufacture “certified organic” makeup/cosmetics, due to the current USDA NOP regulations.

Skincare is possible, but it’s a major pain to make - I would anticipate prices of 2x - 3x the price of “natural” cosmetics.

I know @Microformulation does a lot of natural formulating consulting so he may be able to help you.

I do Formulations under the Natural standards. If you have Formulas, I would suggest Steve Berry at Greenblendz perhaps for those levels. http://www.greenblendz.com

    I don’t think it’s possible either.

The problem is that there are NO certified organic surfactants other than potassium or sodium soaps. So, a 70% organic lotion could possibly happen, if you can find a surfactant natural enough to pass the certifiers.
There is a very slim chance that a 95% organic lotion is possible, but stability will be an issue.
100% organic will never be possible, unless the rules are changed about what counts as “organic”.

Since a company can use the term organic however they want I think you could make a 100% organic lotion. Not USDA certified organic of course.

We tried that. The third-party organic certifiers threatened to both sue and file a complaint with the FTC. Our management backed down. Apparently, they now consider the word “organic” anywhere on a label or in an ad to be false and deceptive if the product isn’t certified. So unless your pockets are deep enough to withstand several lawsuits, you ought to steer clear.

That’s what I’ve come to figure. With organic claims we’re out of luck… everything invites a lawsuit!

With natural I seem to have found some good lab/factories for skincare but nothing yet for color cosmetics.

Color Cosmetics are limited by the fact that most natural standards will simply state “no synthetic colors or fragrances.” Organic/Natural colorants have a long way to go. In addition they miss the fact that the consistency of the color and the overall eveness of color is a function of a synthetic.
