My Formula Has the wrong “vibe”
Posted by WarrenChemist on April 1, 2022 at 1:41 pmHello everyone! Long time lurker, finally took the plunge to register
I have been in cosmetic formulation ~15 years, mostly working for a CM with a few gaps of consulting sprinkled throughout. Have a new customer that has honestly left me scratching my head
They are a holistic organic natural you name it brand and their marketing story revolves around crystals
We were moving ahead at a nice clip and I thought formula approval was imminent (famous last words) when the feedback comes in that compared to their dream product, the “vibe” of my serum is wrong.
No other constructive criticism, any attempts at further clarification sent me looking at what seemed to be moodboards on Pinterest.
I guess the vibe is rose quartz as that is the proposed named for the product
any help would be appreciated. I’m an old fashioned science guy and sometimes dealing with customers/marketing people has me tearing out what’s left of my hair
Thanks!Lab replied 2 years, 7 months ago 12 Members · 19 Replies -

@WarrenChemist, I think you first need to see how your formulation plays on the vibraphone, then a reading on the vibrometer, then of course use it in the bedroom with the…you know where I’m going there.
This is a tough one though. Suspending those crystals - no problem, but sourcing them? Good luck, brother. -
Customer supplied Akoshine powdered rose quartz! in the serum at a borderline troublesome amount, but in there!
consulted with my daughters as well and i’ve been informed I simply don’t pass the “vibe check”

Add also rose quartz as homoeopathic dilution, use spring water instead of pure one, and tell them that you grounded your machines to shield the product from electrosmog (send in a box from recycled cardbord with wood shavings as insulation) and a hand written card attached with a sisal strin.Get a ‘guru looking’ guy or a ‘witchy gal’ to hold a pendulum over the new products A and B (they’ve been stirred clockwise and anti-clockwise, respectively… at least, that’s what you’re telling them) and have them make the pendulum swing, obviously, clockwise and anti-clockwise for the two products (goes without saying that they know which ones which). Send film as ‘proof’.Or tweak anything small ‘according to recommendation’ by a healer, medium, wicca or whatever.Maybe print/scratch/etch a tiny (tiny enough to be inconspicuous but big enough to be barely noticed) sigil (that’s a rune-like magickal sign) on the container (-> win the approval of their subconcious minds)?

Did you balance the Vibrational Harmonics of the Water with the energy frequencies of the crystals? If they are not balanced … not cool.
When you work on these kinds of projects, you should change your name from Warren to Warwen

Forgot to mention:- Change viscoelasticity (the only ‘scientific’ advice which might acutally help).- Move lab. It’s probably located above a water vein, a crossing of Hartmann or Curry lines, or any other earth radiation. If you can’t move, buy an overpriced scam gadget or a quartz pyramide to shield your lab.- Change container; if they look cheap or synthetic… you know where this is going.- Read appropriate literature. If you’re into the older stuff, I can recommend Heinrich Cornuelius Agrippa von Nettesheim and Paracelsus. On your journey, you’re probably stumbling on Aleister Crowley, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and the like… skip those, these aren’t helpful for good vibes. Gerald B. Gardner and the generation he inspired might be more useful for the task at hand. For all things more modern, have a look at Llewellyn’s huge book collection. Some weird shit there but also a bunch of inspiring concepts.

@Pharma Fantastic! They are perfectly happy with the ingredients so maybe I can drum up some process to send over with these tweaks and see if that’s to their liking
The guys in production might kick my behind if I tell them it has to be mixed “widdershins” but the customer is always right!
@MarkBroussard You’re absolutely right. I should’ve balanced my chakras too before even attempting to formulate!

This is all gold. Bringing it up to our CEO now. If he won’t go for any of this maybe I can sneakily sage my bench (the minimum) or the whole of R&D before the smoke detectors go off

Originally, I wrote ‘widdershins’ but then I wasn’t sure whether or not you’d know what that means and went with anti-clockwise *giggle*.I’m not saying you have to mix it that way (unless you honestly and truly believe that it actually does something useful, then, sure, do so), you just have to pretend… I assume your clients aren’t really into ‘the other business’ at a serious level or they would have specified that ‘vibes rubbish’. Therefore, it seems fair enough to be not too honest about that production step and just pretend (if you’re a good enough actor… else, don’t lie).

This is just my guess - without seeing the moodboards, I can only make a guess.
Texture - should be quite light or very light.
Scent - should be calming - not too strong - maybe something like rose hydrosol, little smell of rose and evaporates fast enough to convey the absorption of chakra - and a little bit of sweetness for the meaning of love - if their moodboards mainly morning or daytime calming - so maybe little bit of honeysuckle or lily if the valley or chamomile or magnolia - something sweet but not too sweet - if they want night time calming - maybe like little sweetness and little lavender.
Container - glass or frosted glass or those bamboo outer layer type.
Use LOI ingredients INCI begin with letter L O V E in sequence to emphasize the vibe.
After building this spiritual claim then add the usual claim ingredients.
Preservatives - don’t neglect preserving chakra energy as well, something like pink himalayan salt might be a good BS.
Cheers.

I am dying at these responses ???? tell them you charged it with moon beans and sang it a song.

Crystal matters are often combined with aromatherapy, if you can, I would try Pelargonium Flower Oil and/or Rosa Damascena Flower Oil. Croda has water soluble amethyst extract, INCI “Quartz”. Crystal-driven companies ensure that the entire production process takes place in the presence of crystals. So, buy a crystal, make a new version, and assure your client that you have filled the product with love and acceptance from the crystals.

Thanks for a good laugh, definitely sending this to my boss.

I loved these comments! Made my day!
I remembered a cosmetics line that an influencer (Bianca Andrade, known as “Boca Rosa”) here in Brazil launched last year emphasizing the “quartz” thing. You can check out the products here, but I think they don’t have the “holistic vibe” you’re looking for
P.S.: If I may, I would suggest putting some different color on your product, like a blue or yellow and maybe a little bit of “star/fairy dust” (read as: mica)… It should attract some mystical prying eyes at least

Go Macbeth on ’em -
“Eye of newt, and toe of frog, Wool of bat, and tongue of dog, Adder’s fork, and blind-worm’s sting, Lizard’s leg, and howlet’s wing,- For a charm of powerful trouble, Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.” -
Pretty funny discussion!
Whenever I see a “young mystic” talking about something like that they make a point of emphasizing the sun - so let your formulation shine and rise, my friend! ????
Maybe you could buy a tarot deck and play some cards to try to get an “enlightenment” of what to do in your formulation.I watched a documentary once (which talked about how a certain indie game was made) where one of the developers said that he did exaclty that to have a “direction” - just for fun - and it yielded very great results! -
An update for all! In terms of actual formulation I changed absolutely nothing. But I sent customer four different samples made with four different crystal infused waters. between you and me, they are the same product but my process i sent to them goes on to detail that the water was allowed to circulate among charged (yes! charged! for those of you who I think I am no spiritual!) crystals at room temperature. Packaging wise I found these wonderful frosted glass bottles in… oh how convenient! four colors!
Success! Obviously my serum had been giving off the wrong vibe due to my cosmically bland water. Thank you all so much for your help -
I’ve waited so long for an update! Glad to hear that everything is going according to plans, aligned with the four elements
Congratulations, Warren! Now you make “Cosmicts” :joy:
