    Hello,
In my country  one of the best-selling acne treatments contains hexamethylene tetramine(methenamine) as the active ingredient. However, I tried to find any other product with that ingredient but such are not sold anywhere else in the world. Also, all the research about it is connected to urinary infections and not acne.

Do you know about the efficacy of this ingredient?People seem to be pleased with the results after using that brand.

Methenamine is a reaction product of ammonia and formaldehyde.
Methenamine readily decomposes on heating, high pH, low pH releasing free formaldehyde.
Doubtful if it would be accepted in an acne product in most countries.

Yeah , I thought that , too. And it is claimed as an active ingredient?
For example the following toner :
INCI : Aqua, Propylene glycol, Alcohol, Methenamine, Fragrance

That really isn’t claiming it as an active, more so as a constituent ingredient.

I mean it is claimed as an active in the product’s leaflet.

Has anyone been able to figure out what makes Methenamine a viable acne treatment? The only study I was able to find was a Bulgarian one, but it is from 1997 and not accessible online
