  • Mechanism of action for emollient on the skin

Could anyone share how emollient works on the skin - if it fills the gap within the corneocytes to soften and smoothen the skin surface, will it clog the pores and cause skin irritation? Likewise for humectants, it draws moisture, does it also fill the gap of the skin cells? Any kind of literature on mechanism of action would be helpful. Thanks.
