    Hi everyone,
I am making a cleansing lotion and having a problem with its viscosity. The viscosity decrease dramatically even after only few days. pH doesn’t change and I am pretty confident with the preservative I use.
I have the below in my formula: Ultrez, glycerin, sodium PCA, Cetearyl alcohol at 5% , Decyl glucoside at 14%, lamesoft PO65 at 2% (superfatting agent) , Vit E and preservative.
I know this is not a typical emulsion as the cetearyl alcohol is not an emulsifier.
Just wondering if anyone can point out any incompatibility or missing ingredient.

@Shams  may this information will help you, so lamesoft PO65 is mild tensio actif not as you said  (superfatting agent), about your problem my suspect going to Sodium PCA because it is electrolyte an may it broke the viscosity made by ultrez so here is some idea I guess your product can be fine without the Sodium PCA unless you can change the ultrez by something not electrolyte sensitive as cellulose  gum, xanthan gum…
Last thing the level of use of cetearyl alcohol seems high just decrease it I guess it will give better result.

@Shams As @Fekher mentioned, check the electrolyte compatibility of your Carbopol; there are actually types of Carbopol that are more tolerant to electrolytes than others (Ultrez 10 breaks very easily while Ultrez 20 can hold on better).

Also, without a proper emulsifier, many things can impair viscosity like your preservative (especially if it has EHG). You might also probably notice some phase separation when you conduct your stability, without a proper emulsifier.

    Thanks @Fekher & @ketchito for your suggestions
I am using ultrez 20 not 10, so it should be good in regards to electrolytes.
I also have it in incubator for almost 2 months now at 45C and no separation. Just the problem of viscosity.
What emulsifier would you suggest @ketchito

@Shams You can use a cationic like BTM-50 or a non ionic like Ceteareth-20 (only the latter can impair some preservatives’ availability).
