  • Lab equipment for small/medium size batch making of a natural lipstick

Hi everyone, long time lurker here and in need of some help. I’m looking to make batch sizes of 1,000 grams to 10,000 grams at a time for a lipstick base. However to be honest, I’m new to using the “right” equipment to do this in a more efficient and correct way that will help make sure the formula is stable. So this is all about equipment here…

I need suggestions of what equipment is needed to start.

I’m not looking for a cheap solution but the right solution so please feel free to suggest a setup that gets the best job done  :)

    1. Heating/melting waxes and oils together, for smaller batches (1,000 grams) this can be done with a hotplate right? And for larger batches I can use a steam jacket heating kettle?

    2. Mixing the melted waxes and oils together for a natural lipstick base formulation… This is where I’m lacking correct direction from lack of experience other than my own… Once heated/melted *or while bringing up the temp, what kind of mixer do I need to use for this type of formula… Are hotplate and magnetic stirrers not going to cut it? meaning it won’t mix the formula well enough for it to be stable? Mixer, what kind of mixer and blade is needed to mix well enough to be confident that a lipstick formula will be stable at least with the mixing part? Does this need emulsification? (please note have zero experience with mixers and knowledge)

    3. If the mixing is done right then will that give me plenty of time to cool the base and it stay homogenous?

    4. Any other kind of equipment that would be useful for the production of small/medium size batches?

Thanks so much! - I hope these are dumb questions, just trying to really learn here and this seems like an amazing community to get involved with and learn from :)
