L-arginine
Posted by Dtdang on May 26, 2022 at 12:44 pmGood morning all!
Is L-arginine better than NaOH to bring pH up? Is it helping skin too? It is amino acids.
Thank you so much for answers.

I normally prefer to use L-Arginine, but the two are interchangeable.

I have no idea how can you make L-Arginine work? I mean, if you dissolve it in water it does not a high pH. How can it effect the pH of a final product?
I saw a lot of L-Arginine being used but I never figured out how they do it. It does not bring the pH up. I must be missing something. ?
Thank you! -
You have to add quite of bit of it, but it will indeed increase the pH.

@Paprik, L-arginine is added at the end of formulation to bring the pH up. I like it bc it has benefits to skin.

Indeed. Arginine is a basic aminoacid with several amino groups able to get hydrogen ions from the media.

I know from experience it is easier to find L-arginine, and the preparation of NaOH can be difficult depending on conditions. Since using L-arginine, it’s given me less of a hassle during formulating

Guess it will depend on what county you live in and where you usually buy your ingredients. In Australia it can be bought at New Directions.
