I am making a cream and have a lot of plant extracts that I would like to add during cool down because that’s what the instructions say to do. But I am just wondering, at what amount does it become problematic to add extra water or oil phase ingredients during cool down? 1% 3%? 5? 10?

Currently I am at about 6% of the formula being added under 50 degrees. Is this too much or does it just depend on the formula whether I can get away with it?

I have an emulsified deo, that is at13%.  Not ideal….but it works.  Regarding the plant extracts….since they probably won’t be doing anything anyway…you can sure get away with adding them earlier.

Of course, the proof is in the pudding…. You will know when it is too much….when it no longer works (stable). :)

And if you do take it too far….there are even ways around that…with a proper build of the emulsification system, and possibly even adding cold process emulsifiers as a finishing kiss.  Of course as always….everything is ….. formula specific.
