Is my highlighter formula ok?
Hello! I’m new to this forum, far from professional and swedish, so excuse any linguistic errors and such… I read the rules atleast!
I’m going to do a pressed highlighter, for personal use. I have no experience at all, except I had one course in chemistry last year which I absolutely hated and nearly failed. (But here I am!) Seeing that many indie makeup brands sell eyeshadows that are literally only mica and colorants, it seems like eyeshadows and similar would easy enough to start off with. I ordered my ingredients from TKB Trading, because they sell smaller amounts to private persons. Here’s my formula, I haven’t tried it yet I just want to know so I don’t completely mess up from the start! Of course I will try it out when I have the possibility.- 20% sericite coated with carnauba wax- 20% kaolin- 10% zinc stearate- 5% magnesium stearate- 5% boron nitride- 40% coloured micaI’ve figured I should probably mix the base (the first five ingredients) first and then add the mica. I want the end product to be creamy (for a powder) and highly pigmented, and be easy to blend out on the skin. What I’m thinking is that maybe I don’t need both magnesium stearate and zinc stearate, they seem to have similar properties (binding?). And maybe I could use less kaolin and more sericite instead, I think kaolin gives it better adhesion but I don’t want it to drag on the skin. I’m going to press it as well, I have a ready made pressing medium by TKB Trading right now, but I’ll eventually try to make my own later. The INCI for TKB pressing medium: Isopropyl Myristate, Dimeticone, Bis-Vinyl Dimethicone/Dimethicone Copolymer. So, my question is: Is this a good starting point? If something is completely off, what can I alter? Also if someone got any good resources for a newbie it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
