Is it necessary for heat phase
Hi, first timer formulating shampoo
i have conflicting advice about whether a need to heat and hold water and surfactants is necessary. Surfactants I’m using are CAPB 4%, Decyl Gluciside 7% and Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate 5% so all liquid. I was told it’s best to heat for ‘microbiological reasons’ Also previous attempt of shampoo was far to harsh so lessened surfactants. Is it too low? Thanks -

Preservatives should prevent the growth of most bacteria there so there’s no need for heating.

You need to heat things like cocamide DEA or Glyceryl Oleate to melt them. I don’t see a reason to heat liquid surfactants.

On a large scale production level, it is often helpful to heat formulas a little bit because it can reduce viscosity and make the filling process quicker.
But heating is really only needed for melting ingredients that need it and for creating emulsions if that’s the kind of formula you are making. Cosmetics are not pasteurized.
