    hey,
I would like to ask if it is a good idea to heat up a waterbased hair product (lets say a clay or a pomade) to destroy its fragrance. Will this affect the preservatives as well?
The idea came to my mind because I bought a fantastic clay pomade but i hate its fragrance.
    Thanks anyways!

It depends on the preservative system but yes, it could destroy the preservative system.  It may or may not be a good idea.

Phenoxyethanol & sorbic acid are heat stable so that shouldn’t be a problem.

But in general, adulterating existing products in the way that you described is not a good idea.  You could be breaking the emulsion structure, altering the pH, or otherwise destabilizing the formula. It may still be fine or you may ruin the product. It’s hard to say without actually testing it.
