I am developing an intimate syndet bar for women and I’m having a hard time to achieve hardness. My formula is:

    Shea butter 3,0%
    Cetearyl alcohol 6,0%
    Bee wax 2,0%
    Stearic acid 5,0%
    Sodium cocoyl isethionate (SCI) 33,0%
    Sodium coco sulfate 23,0%
    Glycerin 8,0%
    Cocamidopropyl betaine 10,0%
    Sodium lactate 3,0%
    Lactic acid 85% 0,5%
    Stryphnodendron adstringens bark extract 3,0%
    Fragrance 3,0%

    Heat phase I:

Shea butter Cetearyl alcohol Bee wax Stearic acid.

    Heat phase II
Sodium cocoyl isethionate (SCI), Sodium coco sulfate, Glycerin, Cocamidopropyl betaine

Mix phase I and II and add the other ingredients:
Sodium lactate, Lactic acid 85%, Stryphnodendron adstringens bark extract, Fragrance.

The finished bars after drying are way to soft.

Could you please help me??? I would appreciate!!!!

    Thanks in advance. Best regards,

    Flavio

@Pima_Brazil try to reduce glycerin and CAPB levels.

Fekher, thanks! Should I reduce by half these and increase CSI and SCS?

I have not really idea for the precise amount to reduce so you should work on it , but as start point try in total 10 % (glycerin and CAPB) and as you said it seems good idea to increase the level of CSI and SCS.

The amount of liquid products in your formulation is absurd.

Glycerine is one of the worst things you can add to a Syndet bar in my experience. It will easily absorb moisture from the air and make your bar soggy.

Cetyl Alcohol at 5% will do wonders for softness. (Better than Cetearyl)

Try to aim for around 70% in Surfactants and Waxes. Dove uses around 25-27% of Stearic Acid in their formulation and around 45-47% SCI with 10-12 % Real Soap.

I think you should increase your Stearic Acid %.

CAPB - around 6-8%  would be a more appropriate range.

You should also consider adding a chelating agent as well as a salt such as Sodium Chloride to also help the bar dry faster after use.

3.0 % Fragrance sounds very high especially for an intimate product. And from a formulation standpoint it may cause you many headaches.

I can’t pass this one up: “can’t achieve hardness” in an “intimate soap”? Insert punchline please.
