Increasing hair gel viscosity
Posted by Fekher on February 16, 2019 at 9:25 pmhi friends , whats is the best ingredient to have important increasement of gel’s viscosity without increasing the level of carbomer and preserving gel texture ( without using ceteareth) ?
i’am thinking about peg but i did not find any reference for best one or is there any other solution ?

I wouldn’t know of a way to increase gel viscosity and keep the same texture besides raising the level of carbomer, I’m afraid. Perhaps other members can be of assistance to you.
Good luck! -
@Chemist77 @Doreen actually elegance gel have great viscosity that soo difficult to reach it with only carbomer same for few other gels the commun point is they are all containing : castor oil or peg 40 castor oil.

Fixate Plus (Lubrizol) will thicken the base when properly pH’ed. Along with carbomer, should thicken to where you can stand a spoon in the solution.

Will depend a lot on desired thickness and clarity. So you would have to play with it. >6 less clarity but a bit more hold. <6 more clarity, slightly less hold.
-
What carbomer are you using from Lubrizol? They have a wide variety of carbomers, and most likely they offer something with higher viscosity. For example carbopol 980 NF should give very high viscosity gels.

Have you considered the POLYOX Water Soluble Resins from Dow.Unfortunately I have only trialled them in non cosmetic applications so I can’t really help with which ones might be suitable but your Dow rep should be able to help.

@ngarayeva001 thanks for the help and this curve have a plus about carbomer and viscosity but i have always problem of access .
Whatever @ozgirl thanks a lot for your input. -
@em88 actually no precise value but a viscosity near to elegance gel ( lit bit higher) .
