  • Increase the thickness for an eye contour cream

Posted by nkpalaci on October 14, 2024 at 10:50 am

I’m looking to increase the thickness of an eye contour cream without creating an occlusive layer. Which of the following ingredients, or combination of them, would be best to increase the percentage of?

    • Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, O1000
    • Cetyl a., Stearyl a., Cetearyl a. ( so far maximum 3%)
    • Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid, Xanthan Gum
    • Any specific carrier oil or ester

Ideally, I’d prefer not to add any new ingredients, but feel free to suggest one if you think it would help. Also, any advice on ingredients to avoid, like propanediol, which tend to reduce thickness, would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi,

You know by now that a question like that would only receive answers if all the details were given, right?

An increase in any of the ingredients you’ve given could work or not, depending on your whole formula.

I’m sorry; I still don’t really know how to engage properly in this forum.
I was just asking if any of those elements or their combinations make more sense than the others for thickening a cream without creating too much occlusion.
I’ve done so many tests that I was just trying to get some input from the experience of forum participants to avoid further material loss.
Thanks you for your response 🙂

        Hi, forgot to answer😇

What I was trying to say is you have to post the whole formula when asking a question like that, as it usually gives a good image about what’s going on. Also it is very helpful to share what have you tried (and didn’t work) to solve “the issue”.

In other words, nobody is inclined to waste their time guessing, so be as precise as you can, and give as many helpful details as you can.

Hi, if you are not limited by the budget and don’t have HA in the formula already, i think HMW HA is the best choice. If you don’t want to raise the cost, Xanthan Gum. you don’t consider polymers? Sepimax Zen? it depends on your formula though

Hi MiaPharma, thanks for your reply.
I don’t use polymers in these products.

I’m going to do a test by increasing the HA! 🙂 thanks!
