Can Btms-50 be used as an emulsifier “alone” to make a leave in conditioner? Or does it need a more effective emulsifier?

I believe so - Why not check with your Supplier and see if they have a basic formula for you to try?

I think using it alone would be very heavy though think using it alone would make very heavy cream. And remember the charge is positive so even when it’s rinsed it’s going to make hair very flat.

Absolutely! Use as your primary emulsifier. Works like a charm, but better when used with cetearyl alcohol & ceteareth-20 builders and especially if you plan on emulsifying silicones. Used alone it works fine too but can’t sustain higher oil loads (>5.0%) without builders. BTW, behenetrimonium chloride works even better as a primary and less expensive too.
