Ideas to avoid alcohol gel sticky afterfeel on hands?
Posted by Gunther on May 12, 2020 at 3:46 pmWhat chemicals have you used to reduce stickiness on other formulations to see if they can be applied to alcohol gels?
Would a tiny amount of propylene glycol or something like that help?

That definitly works, thank you.
In fact we reduced the Carbopol content to make our last Carbopol Ultrez reserves last longer as it’s very hard to find.It looks like a little Polyox might help reduce stickiness too. I’m still experimenting on that.
Any other ideas?

Do you mean sanitizing alcohol gel? If yes, it is because of type of gelling agent you are using. Sticky ones I tried are: ordinary carbomer and xanthan gum. Like Fekher said, Ultrez 21 is great for this application because of its great non sticky feeling.

I’ve had good results by simply reducing the glycerin level and adding a small amount of Propylene Glycol. I use 1.0% and 0.4% respectively.

Better yet, DELETE the glycerin completely and add prop glycol or (better) butylene glycol at 1.0%. The resin used is not a big factor, though xanthan is the stickiest.
