  • How much Shea Butter for an eczema cream?

Posted by GabyD on March 6, 2020 at 7:53 pm

Hi, I am working on a rich body cream to help with eczema. How much Shea Butter would you advise? These are the other ingredients:

Purified aqua, Behenyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Simmondsia chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerol Monolaurate, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Glyceryl Stearate,  Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, actives (3%).

    Many thanks,

    Gaby

Depends on what you’re going for. Anywhere between 0.1%-10% is usually used.

I would probably add a silicone or mineral oil to this before worrying about shea butter. As it stands, I cant imagine that this cream would do much good for eczema (coming from a guy with severe eczema).

That product can not be labeled as for Eczema or sold for use in eczema in the US. It is noncompliant with the OTC monographs.

If you use this cream for body I suggest 6 to 8%

If you use it for face I suggest 2% to 3%. Reason is that it has high % oleic acid than linoleic acid. Keep % linoleic acid > % oleic acid to prevent acne

Thanks guys. I actually put in 20% shames bitter, so I assume that’s too much?

@natzam44, I am adding some active ingredients which I didn’t include in the ingredients list. This is just the base.
