  • How much Behentrimonium chloride can I add to my conditioner?

    Dear All,
According to CIR the max amount is 3% for rinse off product, since my supplier is MC, it is 80% active, therefore the maximum amount is 3.75% correct?

Does this regulation apply to conditioner bars? Ozgirl recently submitted a formula, see link below. This formulation is for a conditioner bar containing 5% of BTC , formula created by Innospec.

If the maximum is 3% for regular conditioner, what is the maximum amount for a conditioner bar? I want to follow regulation, are there any for conditioner bars?

@Syl You can find the latest european regulation for Behentrimonium chloride here: https://ec.europa.eu/growth/tools-databases/cosing/index.cfm?fuseaction=search.details_v2&id=92331.

I believe this is the one that the formula you mentioned takes into account. Btw, the 3% according to this regulation is for leave-on hair products. for rinse-off, the max is 5%.

@ Ketchito, thank you for the explanation. I am in the US, so I have to stick with 3%. The challenge is that when you use a conditioner bar you end using significantly less product in comparison to a regular liquid conditioner as much as 10% less.

For me it doesn’t have any effect with any difference!
