  • How do they test for comedogenic

    Hello everyone,

I am an acne specialist looking into becoming a cosmetic chemist.
I have a question about what makes something comedogenic and how do they test for it.
Do they test humans or animals? What’s the process?  does saponifying an oil make it less comedogenic?
    Thanks in advance.

Historically done on animals (usually rabbit ears) now mostly done on humans or not done and the claim justified on formula composition.

There’s an description of the test method here
Saponifying oils would make them into soap, and often more comedogenic.

    thank you, alchemist!

Now when you say the claim is done purely on forumula composition, can you expand on that for me?
i appreciate the info you sent greatly.
