Help With Formulating Semi Permanent Dye
So I’m working on a formula similar to Iroiro however I cannot find a supplier for the dyes that will ship to a non lab or non business address other than Alibaba or TCI Chemicals and I’m not sure if they are suitable. I’d also like to add that I am well aware of the risks associated with handling dyes. Does anyone know whether acid dyes are ph sensitive like basic dyes? I had found a helpful document on Sensient about the ph ranges for their basic dyes but I’m unsure if that is just for their product or the dye in general. What are the correct usage amounts for these in America? I’d hire a chemist however I’ve had a ton of bad experiences with them and would rather do this on my own.

That’s because most hair dye raw materials are hazardous to ship. It costs over $50 to ship a sample out and companies don’t want to get in trouble sending materials classified as “poison” to homes. It’s a liability thing. I doubt you’ll find any reputable distributor to send poisons and environmental hazardous materials to your house.

I developed the IroIro product line … are you looking to develop products for the European market or US market … the dyes allowed in each are quite different. The regulations in Europe are much more stringent.

For the US market. I also recently got into contact with Pylam. I emailed you a while back @MarkBroussard but I never heard back and your website said you no longer catered to color cosmetic formulations but if you have any words of advice, I’m all ears!

I do not recommend to work with these dyes at your home. They are very hazardous and if you don’t know what you’re doing from a toxicology and safety standpoint there can be issues. Although you’re well aware of handling, you aren’t sure of the regulations or formulation parameters - hazard doesn’t stop at the handling - it goes to the consumer in the finished product. I would overcome your bad experiences and hire someone who has experience handling these dyes.
