Help with conditioner
Posted by tay on May 8, 2019 at 4:39 amhello I am new to creating products ( well kind of) . I am in need of help with my conditioner. I want it to have more slip. It is thick and creamy but I’m at loss for what ingredient to add for it to be more slippery. And at what percent?

Not enough. Here’s the thing it’s hard to achieve proper level of conditioning with 25 because Cetyl Alcohol that is 75% will make your formula too thick. Up to 8%, remove all of the Cetyl Alcohol. Reduce total oils to 1%, add dimethicone (1.5-2%). If you can order from Europe I can tell you where to find BTMS 80. I personally find it more ‘controllable’.

Thank you for your response.I rather not use dimethicone since I’m not to found of silicones. I’m in the USA but if the price isn’t too bad I would definitely order.

What do you think if I added BTMS 50 with a different fatty alcohol? Do I even need an extra one since BTMS 50 is mixed with one?

Cetyl Alcohol is fine. You can use BTMS-50. It’s easier to achieve good level of conditioning with 50. You want 4-6% of fatty alcohols in a conditioner (subject to desired viscosity and other ingredients used.

Use google translate. This is Italian supplier (small quantities) similar to lotioncrafter and makingcosmetics. They have more interesting things than some US suppliers. Internationall shipping is available (I am not based in Italy myself).I personally perfer this BTMS because I can control the viscosity of the product better with it. It’s 80% active BTMS and just 20% cetyl alcohol. Compare with your BTMS 25, where there is only 25% of active BTMS and 75% of cetyl alcohol.

Ok thanks I’m going to bookmark them. Thank you for your help also I appreciate it

Should you add add more fatty alcohols to BTMS-50 to increase viscosity?
Or just add more BTMS-50? -
It might be a bit over conditioning and can make hair feel heavier if you add too much of BTMS. I would say it’s a matter of preference (some people like a lot of conditioner).
