Help formulating petroleum jelly like product
I need some help trying to with formulating/percentages in making this facial balm, specifically to be used for healing and occlusion after post-laser treatments. The end product is supposed to be like petrolatum jelly, but it is super thick and doesn’t have that vaseline, sticky like consistency.This help! so new at this. Here is the formulation so far that I’ve triedPetrolatum 91.5Microcrystalline Wax 5Parrafin 2.5Vitamin E 0.5Squalene 0.5 -

You will have to retain the services of a formulation/cosmetic chemist to look at this formulation for you. I worked on a similar post-laser facial balm and it was a very very challenging product, both in terms of the process (formulation and production) and regulation.
I suggest working backwards, depending on your selling countries and look at the regulations. It will save you a lot of headache later on. -
My personal opinion is: Why re-invent the wheel? Do a Google search for “petrolatum replacements” or “Wax Jelly”, buy one of the mixtures, add some Vitamin E and a preservative blend, and you’re done.

why not just use petrolatum and vitamin E? no need to formulate at all.

That’s probably the best bet. Any suggestions on the percentages to use?

I figured out the problem! I was using Petrolatum from Making Cosmetics, (http://www.makingcosmetics.com/Petroleum-Jelly-Petrolatum_p_104.html)
It is a completely different texture/consistency than petrolatum on https://www.spectrumchemical.com/OA_HTML/chemical-products_Petrolatum-White-USP_PE125.jsp?minisite=10020&respid=22372&phrase=petrolatumThe one from making cosmetics had a coconut oil texture, where as the spectrum had the typical vaseline texture.Thank you guys for the help.
