HEC - Hydroxyethyl cellulose
Posted by Muhammad7 on February 17, 2019 at 1:30 pmHi ,
If i want to make a Shampoo ( Viscosity ~ 5000 CPS ) How much HEC i need into the formula ?
I use 1% of HEC and the viscosity still ~ 1500 CPS .
Any advises ?em88 replied 5 years, 8 months ago 5 Members · 10 Replies -

@Muhammad7 you can increase the level of HEC to have more viscosity , change the type of HEC ( there are a lot type of HEC wich give different viscosity ) and finally you can think about other electrolyte resistant thickner .

Now im using the HEC . Someone can recommended amount of HEC to get high viscosity ?

The problem with just bunging in more of that type of thickener is that you’ll end up with pseudo-plastic consistency. It’s not possible to help without knowing what the formula is.

Im already uses 1% and its not working .
The total solids in my formula ~ 12.5% .
i will try 2% . -

Get a sample of natrosol 250 hhx, you will have to add less than 1%
You can check here the difference: https://www.ashland.com/file_source/Ashland/links/PHA18-101_Natrosol_250_HEC_Formulating_elegant_liquid_and_semisolid_%20drug_products.pdf
Pay close attention to the grade you are using. You can go for 2% with your grade.
