Hello, I am attempting to make a rinse out hair conditioner and noticed that the hair conditioner smells good for 3 weeks then it starts giving of a ‘plastic’ like scent. The pH of the conditioner is 5.5. I can’t seem to find a reason why the scent should change after a while. For the conditioner, I used BTMS 50, Cetyl Alcohol, guar gum, Poly 10, olive oil, Shea butter, Castor oil, fragrance, Germall plus. I will like to find out if anyone know what exactly could be causing the scent to change after some time. Thank you so much

I forgot to mention that I’m using Sodium Gluconate as the Chelating agent and I also hydrate the guar gum at pH 4 before adding to the water phase

Olive oil could be going rancid, shea butter might be a problem, castor oil also and maybe something in your fragrance. It’s hard to say for sure without running an experiment.
