I am trying to make a “extra strength” hair detangler (cream or serum) that will help untangle super matted hair or hair with large amounts of lint/grease and oil.  Think about some one that hasn’t combed or washed their hair in 2 years.  Any suggestions on an active agent that could help with this?

I would make a thick cream conditioner with benhentrimonium chloride 3% ( max allowed concentration) and some dimethicone and slowly work into wet hair with fingers.

Yeah, Dimethicone will be a key ingredient.

thank you gentlemen…  I have been looking at a few videos where people had hair that was beyond matted into one lump and the stylist was trying to comb through it.

Are there any alternatives to dimethicone that would be good?

You could try mineral oil or petrolatum but nothing will work better than a silicone.
