Hello! I am just starting out making cosmetics and I made a foundation primer yesterday. I used it and it worked great but after sitting overnight, I noticed a tiny bit of separation starting at the top of the jar. My recipe is:

    13% Cyclopentasiloxane
    6.5% fractionated coconut oil
    9.5% argan oil
    6.5% silica microsperes
    64.5% silicone gel
Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing the separation and what I can do to fix it?

You are mixing lipids and silicones. Different polarities. Nothing to hold them together.

That is what is wrong I think. You need some stabilizing agent to keep it together.

@Marcyb I agree with @Paprik. Perhaps you could try increasing viscosity a bit more? Not sure if it’ll fix the issue though.

Thank you guys, much appreciated! Should I try E Wax NF?

E Wax NF is an O/W emulsifier. This won’t work. Plus you have no water, so you cannot create an emulsion. You need silicone or oil compatible stabiliser. Or both (?) I am not really sure, I have never done such a product.
You would need to experiment, or hopefully someone else will have an answer for this. :)

cetyl dimethicone or sepgel or one of the gel emulsifiers i.e., gelmaker Rheo, from making cosmetics. Not too much though or you’ll get pilling.
