    Hello,

My name is Lakeisha Lemons. I own my own cosmetic brand called “Frost Cosmetics”. I provide my fan base with various Lip Products. I am having some issues with my two top sellers which are my “Liquid Matte Lipstick and my Matte Lipstick. The following issues are:

Liquid Matte Lipstick- The formula is to running. I want the liquid to be more thicker.

Matte Lipstick- The formula is to shiny. I would like the lipstick to be more matted.

The following ingredients for lip products are:

    Liquid Matte Lipstick:

Mica, jojoba glaze (hv), liponate (tdtm), lanolin, colorless liquid foundation and lip fragrance

    Matte Lipstick:

Mica, jojoba glaze (hv), liponate (tdtm), jojoba esters 70, pre-made lipstick base, lanolin and lip fragrance

Do you know if you can assist me in troubleshooting the correct element(s) that will help my lip products with the current ingredients?

It’s difficult to say because “colorless liquid foundation” and “pre-made lipstick base” are not descriptive enough to indicate what chemicals they are composed of.

If you want it to be thicker, you could probably add a wax like carnauba wax.  To make the mate less shiny you could get rid of the jojoba glaze.

But these are incomplete suggestion because I don’t know what is exactly in your formula.

Ordinarily, we formulate lipsticks deliberately to leave a shiny film on the lips after application. In order for a lipstick film to be shiny, it must be smooth and reflective. Therefore, to make a lipstick more matte, you can interfere with the smoothness, by making it bumpy/rough, or you can interfere with the reflectivity, by using less of the ingredients that cause the shine.

The change @Perry recommended, using less or no jojoba glaze, is using the second strategy. The other option is to make the surface rougher, and to do that, you’d need to increase the powder load in your formula, by increasing the mica level.

@Perry & @Bobzchemist thank you for your helpful tips. So, I don’t would to take out the Jojoba out. I’m building a Jojoba Plantation for my line. With the Lipsticks I just need to add more carnauba wax? What about the Liquid Matte Lipstick?  The following pre-made formulas are below.

Liquid Lipstick Colorless Liquid Foundation is:
Organic Aloe Leaf Juice, Organic Jojoba Seed Oil, Emulsifying Wax, Cetyl Alcohol, Vitamin E, Soybean Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Meadowform Seed Oil, Carrot Seed Oil, DMAE Bitartrate, MSM, Palmitic Acid, Steaic Acid, Myristic Acid, Organic Neem Seed Oil, Organic Rosemary Leaf Extract, Orangic Sunflower Seed Oil, Xanthan Gum, Polysorbate 20, Tstrasodium EDTA.

    Lipstick Base is:
Castor Seed Oil, Cetyl Steary Alcohol, Olive Fruit Oil, Beeswax, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Glycine Soybean Lipids, Lauryl Laurate, Carnauba Wax, Candillila Wax.

If you go on etsy and look up Jlaruecosmetics they have a liquid to matte lipstick base all you have to do is add your lip safe colorant
