    hello everyone

    I need your kind advice

I am using natural salicylic acid extract from wintergreen in my antidandruff formula ,I am trying to dissolve the powder I tried ethanol and it did not work

I tried 1,2-Propanediol monolaurate by IMCD and it did dissolve but the question if it would affect the efficacy of salicylic acid

and if I used propanediol instead will the result be better ?

    I appreciate your feedback

It doesn’t matter what type of glycol you use: PG, Pentylene, etc. The only difference is aesthetics. But the extract you mentioned as I found doesn’t contain Salicylic Acid, it contains Methyl Salicylate, which is not the same.

You did not say how much you are trying to add?

    Here is the mfg comments:

“Solubility Salicylic acid disperses in water up to 0.5%.
Beyond this amount, you are advised to add the salicylic acid in the aqueous phase first and then add
soda little by little until complete dispersion. Formulation with an acid pH to ensure optimum efficacy.”

But if your reason for using it is simply sebum control….why not look at an easy to work with ingredient like: Capryloyl Glycine?

Before making any changes to your formula, it’s recommended that you
conduct small-scale tests to assess the solubility and effectiveness of
your active ingredient (salicylic acid) in various solvents or
solubilizing agents. This can help you determine the best approach for
    your specific formulation.
