Hi all, so I am quite new to this field and am trying to figure out how to formulate liposomes to incorporate a lipophilic active ingredient. I am curious about how does one go about selecting surfactants and the levels to test out in this case please? is HLB still applicable here? Thanks in advance for your time and help!

There are a variety of techniques that can be used to formulate liposomes. Just Google it and you will find several different recipes. But, you will need the right equipment to do this.

I’ll second Mark’s reply here, adding that you are not to “formulate” liposomes so much as “fabricate” them. Once fabricated then you may formulate with them. As Mark says, the right equipment - and reagents - are needed. How comfortable are you handling ethyl ether? Blows up real good, I hear.

Thanks so much for helping! Oh dear, I am not sure that we are able to handle ethyl ether. Does it have to be used to make liposomes? Or are there alternatives please?
