I am trying to formulate a  natural  Concentrated floor cleaner with following ingredient but even after diluting in water and using its leaving floor little sticky. I think glucoside is making it sticky but its required to solubise essential oil. Can someone tell how to take stickiness off of this formula? I tried using ethanol too but essential oil doesnt seem to solubise and stay separated when adding ethanol and hence took it off.

    Water

    Citric
    Acid (for ph adjustment)

    Essential
    Oil – 2%

    Decyl
    Glucoside – 7%

    Pottasium Sorbate - 1%

Can I use soda ash to reduce the stickiness? Would it leave any white patches on the surface? Also, Soda ash plus glucoside will bring the pH way too up and I might have to use large amount of citric to adjust or bring the pH down. Is sodium bicarbonate a better alternative?

Many members of this forum complained that glucosides are sticky, so you are probably right that it’s the glucoside that makes it sticky. What I find curious, is the second part of this statement “required to solubilise essential oil”. What ingredient do you think is doing the job of cleaning in this formula if the glucoside is a solubiliser?

We’ll assume you are referring to lemon oil (d-limonene) “to solubilize.” Your final pH does not need to be acidic, so don’t bother, plus potassium sorbate isn’t needed - but tetrasodium EDTA is! Better yet, raise the pH to 10 - 11. As far as stickiness goes, add an amphoteric hydrotrope like disodium cocoamphodiaceate (along with that EDTA); will help with that solubilizing problem too.
