I want to make a light weight facial oil that would be used in the morning. I want to make something light and nongreasy, but with lasting moisturization through out the day. I currently have caprylic/capric triglycerides, shea nut oil, apricot oil, baobab oil

I heard that squalene is very good for skin, light and deeply moisturizing. But does it really do anything for caprylic/capric triglycerides doesn’t? They seem silimar but folks only rave about squalene.

Also, I was considering ordering sea buckhorn oil or pomegrante seed oil or meadowfoam seed oil. has anyone used these for the face? I’m looking for an oil that could help lighten dark razor bumps/ marks.

    Thanks!

Oils have no lightening ability. I’d stay away from butters such as she because they tend to be comedogenic. If you can get some, oils containing omega-3 have a remarkable effect. EG chia oil.

@Belassi Its interesting that you note shea (i think thats what you are refering to) as being comedogenic. I have read that it is very low on the comedogenic scale and tends not to cause breakouts. I have used it on my face for a while with no negative effects.

I didn’t know that oils couldn’t help lighten, thanks for info.

What benefit does omega-3 do for facial skin?

I’d also include some rosehip seed oil. I use it in all my facial services. It’s rich in vitamins, E, C, beta-carotene, and essential fatty acids (EFA). EFAs help improve the skin’s tone, texture, moisture as well as the appearance of hyperpigmentation (dark spots).

@tanelise l have heard of this oil. I considered it but I also heard it could cause breakout. Hiw do you use it? Straight up or diluted?

I used to purchase it at health food stores and would use it straight out of the bottle. No need to dilute. Since I work in a spa ((Esthetician) I use the ones we carry by Naturopathica and Eminence. Their formulas do contain other oils though. I don’t believe it’s highly comedogenic but that isn’t to say it won’t break out certain individuals.

If you do not have acneic skin, you should be able to use 2-3 drops on the face daily. Since I do not wear makeup I just apply it any time during the day whenever I want my skin to “pop” or if my skin feels a little dry. I don’t mind the dewy look it gives me, but that may bother those who want a more matte finish to their skin. If you do wear make up however, just apply it at night time with your moisturizer.

Here’s a link where you can purchase some.

any oil with a similar viscosity and vapour pressure (i.e. volatility) as squalene will do the same job; in chemical terms, it’s nothing special

@Bill_Toge thanks.  I was debating on wether or not it was worth buying, but then I was looking at some pricey face oils and saw that the too ingredients were CCT and grapeseed oil. Don’t want to use grapeseed since it goes rancid quick.

Unfortunately, “light and non-greasy oil” is diametrically opposed to “lasting moisturization through out the day”. You can have one, but not the other, or you can strike a balance between the two, but you can’t have both.

It may be possible to get a lasting moisturizing effect from a different ingredient, but it won’t be an oil. It may not even be oil -soluble.
