Facebook Acne products…just a bunch of grease & extracts, and poking the bear.
I find some virulent pleasure, from leaving comments on some of the incredibly deceptive/comical cosmetic products that end up falling in my Facebook que, due to me expressing interest in the field.
As of late, a number of just horrific acne products have fallen into my que. (Guess what I have been researching ???? .) It is not just the grease and a few plant extracts that aggravate me….but the miracle cures they offer. They shout from the mountain tops…. the complete cure of acne, in 7 to 10 days.
So, my question is….. I know one can make cosmetics that might have a benefit for acne prone skin, but as soon as you start using ‘acne’ as a claim word, I believe you fall under the FDA’s regulations. These products are made on someone’s kitchen counter!
I took a brief glance at the FDA site…..but am looking for a link to some direct statement, where the use of verbiage stating acne cure/prevention/activity drops the product into a regulated status.
I assume it is not ok…to make any acne claim you want, in the USA?

For example, acne treatments, dandruff treatments, and skin protectants are regulated as drugs. A cleanser that is also an acne treatment… is regulated as a combination drug-cosmetic… Products that are both drugs and cosmetics must meet the requirements for both categories.
The FD&C Act defines drugs, in part, by their intended use, as “articles intended for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease” and “articles (other than food) intended to affect the structure or any function of the body of man or other animals” [FD&C Act, sec. 201(g)(1)].

Here’s the FDA OTC Monograph for Acne products:
If the product does not contain one of the FDA approved ingredients you cannot use the word Acne in your marketing
