    Hello formulators! Need to clarify my knowlege of emulsification.
    Do I understand correctly,that if my product emulsifyes with minimal % of emulsifyers, then I correct the thickness with cetyl alcohol, gums and waxes without increasing emulsifyer percentage? This week I experiment a lot with different emulsifier combinations and oil percentage, to get different textures and minimize soaping effect. My last test is this emulsion and I don’t know if it is ok to leave
    Montanov on 1%. Would be grateful for help.
    69.4% - Water
    1% - Montanov 68
    0.3% - Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate
    5% - Cetyl Alcohol
    0.8% - Carnauba wax
    20% - oils and butters
    0.2% - Xanthan gum
    2% - Glycerin
    0.3% - Sodium Phytate
    1% - Geogard Ultra

    PH -5

    @Eugene

    It depends on the Emulsifier, Eugene. Montanov 68 yields low viscosity emulsions, so it will require a higher amount of Fatty Alcohols to achieve a cream viscosity as opposed to a lotion viscosity. Try making the same formula with a different emulsifier and you will see the effect.

      Thank you for answer Mark. I love creaminess of Montanov 68, I’m just trying to minimize its percentage because of soaping. For example with Glyceryl Stearate Citrate as a primary emulsifier, I have no soaping, but the emulsion has watery feel on skin, that I didn’t like.
