Working on playing with different emulsifiers for a Pomade. When I use polysorbate 20 or 80 in conjunction with peg 40 hydrogenated castor oil sometimes with or without soy lecithin as well, the emulsifion will look stable and spread okay in the hands, but when you go to wash it off your hands the product sort of creates clumps and washes off in weird shavings almost on contact of water. What could be causing this? Do I need to use a lower HLB value emulsifier or just more emulsifier?

To give you proper help, we would need your full formula. Otherwise, we can’t really help.
