    Hello,

Before I ask my question I just want to say I love preservatives. I have no issue with them. I’m not a “natural formulator.” I use formaldehyde releasers like Germall and parabens like Phenonip all the time. I’m not trying to avoid using a preservative.

The product is a lip gel containing 15% Sapogel Q, 2% powders like silica and lip safe mica, 2% Glycerin and 81% plant oils.

I’m not adding any water but the Sapogel Q contains water.

I’m not making this product to sell. It will only be me using it and I might give some away to friends and family.

I’m asking because lip safe preservatives are far and few between. I have some Geogard ECT on the way but I have no idea if this product will tolerate Geogard (Sapogel Q is a bit precarious/intolerant in my experience.)

I do use Liquid Germall Plus in my Sapogel products all the time with no issues.

Please let me know what you think, thank you!! ❤️

Glycerin seems to do the job or Alchemy would likely have added a preservative to the Sapogel Q already.
However, I would indeed consider a preservative due to the presence of those powsers which may result in an unequal distribution of water and glycerin (on a microscopic scale).
Sapogel Q on the lips… doesn’t that taste ‘scratchy’?

No, it’s incredibly smooth. Just like lip gloss but so much less sticky.

    Thank you so much.

Do you think it’s better to skip the additional Glycerin then?

I just tried it again and it has literally no flavor that I can detect. ???? I suspect if anything will impart flavor it will be the plant oils.

Glycerine from Sapogel + 2% is prob irrelevant - great if you could get Aw data but I know that’s not generally available.
    What’s powder bioburden?
Hot fill ?  Does it appears to take up water?
