  • Do alkyl polyglycoside surfactants add any benefit in Shampoo

Everyone on internet says APGs are one of mildest surfactants. I have used all of them and all of them make scalp itching at %6 or more active APG that even SLES doesn’t do it. Foam is  also very poor. So what type of mildness internet and companies are talking about?
is there any benefit for add them to SLES/CAPB Shampoo or should wecompletely remove them?
They are inexpensive by the way

The main benefit to using polyglucosides is to be able to claim “sulfate free” or “natural.” But as far as performance goes…I think they’re lousy.

But you have to remember that success in the cosmetic industry is not simply a function of how well a product works. Marketing is vitally important too. Glucosides help with some marketing positions.

@Abdullah I have used 2-5% plantacare 2000 (decyl glucoside, 50% active) in my SLES based shampoos. It does give a little bit of softness to hair..But as @Perry said, its just for claim purposes.

But, I have used plantacare 1200 (lauryl glucoside) in fruit and veg wash, where the label should say ‘natural’ and little to no foam is required.

@Padmavathi so you are also using it for label not for function?

@Abdullah yes. I include APGs in my shampoo formula because my company supplies them.

But, I have used it in face wash (liquid form in a foaming pump bottle) and intimate wash for its purpose.
