Depending on the viscosity of your substance, degassing with a basic vacuum chamber might be impractical or impossible. The higher your viscosity, the longer degassing will take, and there will be a point where the material will simply fail to degas. The best practice for degassing high-viscosity fluids is to use a vacuum oven such that you can heat the material as well as apply vacuum, as the vast majority of fluids become less viscous when heated.

Vacuum ovens are significantly more expensive than basic vacuum chambers, but for R&D scale you can get small, simple vacuum ovens for a bit over $1000.
