  • Curing time for Fragrances in Creams ?

Hi, I am not sure how to verbalize exactly what I am asking so I will start by sharing my formulation.

    Leave in Hair conditioning mask:

    Cond
    Mask #1
    Tot Weight

    Water Phase  %w
    dH20 74.5
    Glycerin  2

    Oil Phase
    BTMS-50  5
    Cetearyl Alcohol  3
    Coconut Oil  5
    Almond Oil  5

    Cool Down Phase
    Germall Plus Liquid  0.5
    Fragrance 0.5
    Polyquat 7  3
    Hydrolyzed Almond Protein  1.5

The fragrance was not very strong. I was disappointed with the result. The product performance was excellent. A few weeks later, I opened the jar and the smell was VERY strong. Why does this happen?

I made 2 other variations of this cream.

The second one using another fragrance at the same percentage and it was even more disappointing. Today, I opened the jar and the smell improved dramatically.

The 3rd batch was modified slightly. The fragrance level was increased to 1.0% (double) and it was dissolved in IPM 1.2%. I used a strong floral scent and it was also weak despite using 1.0%. I thought my use of IPM was high and might have muted the tones slightly. The smell is still weak however it has only been 3-4 days.

Is there some kind of curing time for fragrances in creams/lotions? What am I missing?
