But skin and hair care manufacturing has increasingly moved from the atelier to anonymous mass production factories.

And these days, who knows where or who makes the skin and hair care you use daily? Retail shelves are overcrowded with synthetic products. Consumers overwhelmed with unnatural smells.

Therefore, consumers have lost their ability to appreciate natural fragrances. And to appreciate handcrafted products.

My solution. I only formulate skin and hair care using all-natural plant ingredients.

I have formulated for several brands globally.

For example, https://ajikesheacentre.com/ We started from zero, and now they are exporting to the USA and globally. I have done similar with other brands in South Africa and other parts of the world.

Consumers seek functional, working products with a good rheology. Only 0.1% of the market cares about what’s inside the products.

Those are sweeping generalizations and as far as labeling.. treading on falsehood. Labeling is stricter than ever and in the US at least, much stricter for cosmetics than for soap.

I’m very very small-fry, but believe it’s bad business practice to try to sell one’s product by fear or by attacking others’ products.

People know what they like, and if that’s the scent of Lavender, -or strawberry- they’re neither wrong nor confused. (You are correct that full, accurate labeling is key.)

Decades in business as a soapmaker have shown me that a seller can have conversations about fragrance, chemicals or ingredients as a whole, without tearing down other products or makers or trying to frighten people.

As to safety, I’ve had customers over the years who were allergic to lavender, lemon or peppermint essential oils but could use synthetically scented soap, & some who were allergic to base oils like avocado oil, almond oil or cocoa butter or natural colorants.

For some a well made syndet with synthetic or no fragrance may be the best bet.

Happily the world is big enough for both ends of the spectrum.
